Turning One-Year-Old
What’s the special day today on June 17th ? Each one of us have this day as special, maybe a birthday, marriage day, or some other special day like me :-).
‘Today I am turning one-year-old in the tech world and is my 1st Job Anniversary’
How I Hired
The day 4–6–2019 still I remember when I was just sitting in my room by sending my resume to GladCloud at around 10 A.M. Surprising I got the reply mail quickly within 10–15 minutes inviting me for a quick interview on Friday 9–6–2019.
The day arrived and I went to the office for the interview. I was slowly opened the door and greeted everyone. Then I gave a small intro of myself and my background, education, skills, projects, and a few questions related to tools.
Within a few minutes, ‘I got an answer the chair is waiting for you to take over whenever you are available you can join’. I was freeze and excited now that I finally got a Job. I was offered an Internship for 3 months as a Graduate Data Scientist and based on my progress they said they can give full-time employment. I could not able to digest this news entirely because I was running out of time to my part-time job directly from the interview.
First Day — First Month
The day which I dreamed arrived finally, dressing up, and taking the laptop to office. The office doors were opened for me to showcase my inputs. The first few days was being nervous, excited, and weird because of the new atmosphere and the team.
The First day was setting up my accounts and system configuration. Reading the on-boarding documents, business use case, product overview, and its process. Further gradually, understanding the work currently ongoing in data science. I got familiarize with the data, tools which was already been using. This activity almost continued for the month.
After One Month
I am finally familiarized with how the products work and the development behind in it. Now I am also part of the team, so I slowly started to take ownership of the existing works. Reporting is the most crucial thing to the clients by converting the raw data to present actionable insights. I started to sketch out to make improvements in the existing reports, by adding new charts, new data, data colors, and changing report layout design. Later, I began to implement it step by step process.
After few months, when the product rolled out to the market for the end consumers to use, I feel delighted and proud that my small contribution also resides in the product.
After Three Month
Now, the time for 3 months of internship is over, and now I was eagerly waiting for the response from my bosses for full-time employment. Yes, finally I got green signal, they were entirely happy with my performance and results and offered as a full-time employee.
By now, I am more comfortable with the tools, with my team, and the company in general. Now, I also started to investigate to add more data to get meaningful insights from it. There is always constant chat about adding new features, storing new data, and to derive insights from it. Further, there will be a discussion with the front end and back end team regarding estimating how long it takes to add features and store new data. My role is also to constantly investigate or research about Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence products, and make recommendations to use it for the business, so that would be beneficial for the end consumers. I have a separate document to track my progress, performance, and work I have done so far.
The Team
We are a small team with people of 4 in total. The working culture and environment are flexible. Both the Co-founders are friendly and always care for employees. My colleague and my friend who is an Italian always love to taste Indian foods. There will be weekly Friday lunch at just a few meters down the road, and I would sometimes join the lunch with them. The team provided me the opportunity and platform for me to start my career. They believed in my ability and strength that I would bring value to the business. I hope so I did and doing so!
Things I Learned so far
Initially, I fell hard for a few weeks and months after joined the job. The reason behind is everything learned so far in education is maximum theoretical since from our childhood, so applying those theoretical skills into real-time practical scenario makes hard. But I gradually correlated the theoretical concepts into real-world working scenarios. Further, I also gathered domain knowledge of digital marketing as the business focus mainly on it, which is an essential part of solving problems using data science techniques. I also learned about the scrum framework process and now I could able to discriminate with the Agile process.
This one year not only taught me about technical skills and work environment but also how to lead a life in many aspects.
I believe each day is a new day to learn new things and solve underlying problems in the real world. Dedication, committed, hard work, patience, and smart work will take you to success. There is no shortcut to success.
Last but not least. ‘Never forgot the path you came through in life’
